On September 7th at 10:53pm, K9 Officer Robert Armstrong arrested Justin Zane, 24, of Barnegat for theft in connection with the theft of a flag from the municipal dock.
Officer Armstrong had responded to the dock after the police department received reports that a male subject was climbing a flag pole and attempting to steal one of the approximately 5 square foot decorative welcome flags.
Officer Armstrong spoke with area residents, one of whom provided a description of the suspect. Officer Armstrong located Zane, who matched the description, fishing from the north end of the dock. Officer Armstrong’s investigation determined that Zane had climbed the flag pole and removed the flag. Zane was placed under arrest for theft and the flag was recovered from Zane’s vehicle.
Zane was charged with theft and released pending a court date.
